Southern Mexico has been decimated by earthquakes through the month of September with three major earthquakes hitting the region. Earthquakes hit Mexico City and the states of Puebla, Morelos and Oaxaca. Countless amount of damage has been caused by the natural disasters.

On September 9th an 8.1 magnitude earthquake hit the southern coast of Mexico and was felt as far as Mexico City. The earthquake initially killed 61 people and injured countless amount of people. The earthquake affected around 50 million people throughout the region and it had left over a million people without power. In fact, this earthquake is the strongest Mexico has experienced in 100 years. The President of Mexico, Peña Nieto, had said that, “Mexico’s army, marines and federal police were mobilized to respond.”

     Later that month, September 19th, another two huge earthquakes hit the State of Oaxaca. There was a 6.1 magnitude and a 7.1 magnitude, which hit closer to the capital of the country. Roads, bridges and buildings have been wiped out due to the earthquakes happening but poor construction is also a factor for the destruction. Hundreds of people have been killed and many more have been injured.

This disaster has caused more than monetary damage, it has caused endless amount of emotional damage. Many have lost loved ones that they will never get back while others have been physically and mentally scarred. Some are paralyzed due to the fact that they have been such a dramatic experience.
